The VUST prior learning and work experience assessment policy makes a standard and regulations of how to defined, assess, and recognize student’s prior learning and working experience that would be equivalent to classroom credit hours.

What is Assessment Prior Learning?
Assessment of Prior Learning (APL) helps students get credits for some types of learning, including working experience in Information Technology or related fields, acquired outside of formal college classrooms and prior to enrolling at Virginia University of Science & Technology (VUST).
What are the advantages of doing APL?
You can save money and move more quickly towards graduation if you are awarded graduate-level credits through APL. In addition, you get an opportunity to organize and reflect upon your prior learning in a way that shows you and others all that you have accomplished, the graduate-level knowledge you have acquired and the skills that you can apply in other situations.
Who is eligible to apply prior learning assessment and what specific fields are recognized?
Any student who is enrolled in an graduate academic program at the Virginia University of Science & Technology (VUST), has strong prior learning and working experience that meets the criteria for post-bachelor-level learning below.
Your areas of prior learning must be:
Computer Science
Computing Engineering
Networking Technology
Computer Programming
Information Technology
Computer Applications
E-commerce, Web design
Information System Management
IT services, IT Help Desk, IT Consulting, and
IT related fields. And etc.
Procedures of Assessment Prior Learning and working experience would be recognized as academic credit hours at VUST?
Fill out the VUST’s Application Form of Prior Learning & Working Experience
Statements of your Prior Learning & Working Experience in years (most present in the first)Resume or CV that must match your prior learning statements;
Provide evidence to approve your statement are truth and correct;
Copy of IT related Certification and IT related training;
Any award regarding IT services, leadership and community services;
Any documents to support VUST to recognize your prior learning capability.
